Is Apple stock undervalued?

Maybe (appleinsider.com)

"Apple has more net cash than each of nine other big tech stocks, zero debt, trades at the lowest price-to-cash ratio of only 3.79, grew earnings faster than every other tech company except for RIMM, and is generating almost $3.00 per share in free cash flow every quarter. (more)

A rare fumble for Apple as they drop the ball on new iPhone release

To thwart those who unlock their iPhone rather than activating it with AT&T, Apple is requiring new 3G iPhones to be activated in the store. This lengthy process has slowed the entire system to a crawl forcing eveyone in line to wait for hours for the opportunity to purchase one of the devices.

Here are a couple of sample comments from a wired.com article about the debaucle:

[It] Sucks that they back-tracked on the pricing/selling experience and it blew up in their faces. Maybe next year they'll switch back to the old, customer-service-first way that actually works.

Upgraded my 1st gen. iPhone through Itunes @ 8:30am PST this morning and still getting the Itunes network error! I have retried at least 50+ times already! THIS SUCKS! I am dead in the water I now have a bricked iPhone! Thanks Apple. This is my only phone (personal and business). I better get something really good from APPLE FOR FREE because of this! I basically lost a 1/2 day of productivity so far! most likely my whole friday at the rate this is going! My only voice backup is skype! It works but I can't leave my home to make calls! Thank you Skype!

Apple's "other" announcement.

Apple released a new AirPort Extreme Base Station along with the iPhone and Apple TV. It should start shipping in February and boasts some really nice specfications. One of the more interesting features is the ability to attach USB hard drive(s) to the unit and automatically share them on your network.

Why you'll love a Mac

Apple has added a section to their web site detailing some of the reasons to buy a Mac. Reason number 1? It just works. "How much time have you spent troubleshooting your PC? Imagine a computer designed by people who hate to waste time as much as you do. Where all the hardware and software just works, and works well together. Get a Mac and get your life back." Don't forget to check out the tv commercials, expecially the one about viruses. Classic!

Apple's Announcements

Apple's 3 big announcements this week were: the video iPod, TV shows available through the iTunes store, and the new iMac with "Front Row" media software.

The iPod is the least impressive announcement to me. I believe that Apple is on the verge of transforming the way we acquire TV programming and redefining how we enjoy it. It shouldn't be long before it will be commonplace for people to receive ALL of their TV content commercial-free through the computer. For as much TV as I watch, I would probably come out ahead with an à la carte system of buying what I want and get rid of my cable TV feed altogether. I say give it a year!
